Cambrian 48 Walk

Hi and welcome to our second Cambrian 48 Summer Series event, which is held in the last weekend in August annually.

The Event is a self-supported 40mile trek over the Cambrian Mountains from West (Tre’r-Ddol near Borth on the West coast) - to East (Llanidloes in the heart of mid-Wales) in 48 hours. The participants will carry their required equipment and rations, whilst navigating their own way over the full course across the challenging terrain of the Cambrian Mountains.

Our preference would be for participants to enter as a 3 or 4 Person Teams, which would enhance the challenge and competition. However, we will still gladly welcome individual participants who wish to test themselves as well.

A recommended itinerary of required equipment and rations will be provided in the Event Pack two weeks prior to the Event. For those who require guidance or a refresher in Navigation and associated skills, a pre-event Navigation Day Course can be organised at the participant’s request.

On Day 1: the participants will follow the Welsh Costal Path North-East from Tre’r-Ddol to Tyn-y-Garth. Then from tTyn-y-Garth follow the Track East over Bwlch-Einion to Pemprys. From Pemprys head East, then South East, through the Lyn Conach wood to Anglers Retreat. From the Angers Retreat follow the Path to Hafodwnog wood, through Hafodwnog wood, then South over Foel Fras to Entrance to Mynydd Bychan Forest. From Entrance to Mynydd Bychan Forest follow the Track North/East and East to reach Siambr Trawsfyndd. From Siambr Trawsfyndd head North East, East, and then North/East again to reach Glaslyn. From Glaslyn head past Y Grug to Penycrocbren Roman Fortlet. Then follow the path South-East over Dyfeity Fawr to Staylittle. From Staylittle follow the Track North-East to enter the Esgair Hir Wood and the Basecamp below Pen Cerrigyffynon.

On Day 2: the Participants will leave the Basecamp in Esgair-Hir Wood and head East through Gorse Gorch to Hafod. From Hafod follow the Path South/East and then East over Foel-y-Belan, then head South-East through Glas Goed to join the B4569 heading East to Caersws. Before you come into Caersws join the Severn Way and head South/West to Carnedd. From Carnedd follow the Severn Way South until you pass Bronerion, and then leave the Severn Way to follow the Path that runs parallel to Coed Mawr Wood, going through Cefen and Red Ho to re-join the Severn Way just South of Wigdwr. Then follow the Severn Way to Bont-newydd. From Bont-newydd /CP6 follow the Severn Way North/West to Croesllywn, then head West on the Path to reach the road by the Van and then join Glydwr’s Way to head South through Penrallt, Allt Goch Woods, continuing on to the Kings Head Pub in Llanidloes town centre and the Finish.
