The Great Oak Café has been serving delicious wholefoods in Llanidloes for over 18 years. We are the only committed vegetarian wholefood outlet in Llanidloes and, indeed, most of the surrounding area. We are probably also the only place to eat locally that prepare all our own food from fresh basic ingredients on the premises everyday, including our bread. You will find a generous selection of dishes on the menu, filled rolls, salads and cakes to eat in or take away and a wide range of coffees and teas. We do not charge you any more than you would expect to pay anywhere else. Why?
The Cafe is a trading subsidiary of The Compton's Yard Charitable Trust, a registered charity committed to providing facilities and amenities for social welfare. The Cafe shares this ethos. And while we make a modest trading surplus each year this is put back into our business rather than taken out.
The Great Oak Cafe is located in the beautiful Compton's Yard listed building towards the top of Great Oak Street where you can sit out on the pavement or in our peaceful yard.
In the evenings the Café becomes the venue for world class jazz performances, DJ's By The Yard and many many other music and cultural events. We also hire out the Café to local groups for meetings and the like for a nominal charge.
