Llanidloes War Memorial Hospital opened in 1930. The hospital was built entirely from public subscription from local Llanidloes residents, who continued to contribute to the running costs of the hospital until it was taken over by the newly created NHS in 1948. Over the years the hospital has expanded, with each new development of wards and services benefiting largely from donations from the League of Friends of Llanidloes Hospital, which was set up in 1963.
Llanidloes hospital is a community hospital in every sense of the word. It came about to serve the needs of the wider Llanidloes area and has done so, magnificently for 76 years. The future of the hospital is now in jeopardy and requires everyone who benefits from the presence of the hospital to support the campaign of the Action Team as they look to safeguard the future of this vital community resource.
Agorwyd Ysbyty Goffa Llanidloes yn 1930. Fe'i hadeiladwyd trwy danysgrifiadau cyhoeddus oddi wrth drigolion Llanidloes, a barhaodd i gyfrannu at y gost o redeg yr ysbyty tan iddi ddod yn rhan o'r GIC newydd yn 1948. Dros y blynyddoedd ehangwyd yr ysbyty, ac mae pob datblygiad o wardiau a gwasanaethau wedi derbyn cefnogaeth ariannol, hael, oddi wrth Gymdeithas Cyfeillion yr Ysbyty a sefydlwyd yn 1963.
Ysbyty cymunedol yw ysbyty Llanidloes. Fe'i sefydlwyd i wasanaethu anghenion Llanidloes a'r cyffiniau ac mae wedi gwneud hynny yn odidog am 76 o flynyddoedd. Bellach mae ei dyfodol mewn perygl ac mae angen i bawb sy'n elwa o'i phresenoldeb i gefnogi ymgyrch y Tîm Gweithredu wrth iddynt edrych tuag at warchod adnodd cymunedol angenrheidiol.

Letters of support
Letters of support have been received from the following:
"There are many things that have made Llani a special place to live over the years.
Where would I place our beloved hospital in this list?
Next to the people of the town and our lovely environment, I would place the hospital in a group of essential jewels in our Crown, without which we could not and should not function properly.
Everyone knows this!"
Margaret Mills-Evans
"My friend, Miss Ivy Morris, was a patient at the hospital from August 18th until her death on September 24th 2005, when her cancer had reached its terminal stage. She had lived in Llanidloes all her life, had no family, but a group of very close friends. Her local hospital, among people she knew, was where Ivy wished to spend the last weeks of her life, and where she received exceptional medical and personal care and compassion. It was improtant to her that friends were able to pop in at any time to support her and take her any shopping and comforts she needed. During the last twenty four hours of her life her closest friends were near enough to be able to ensure that there was always someone who cared for her at her side, and she died peacefully having had the best possible care. The importance of the medical and personal care and understanding provided by our local hospital cannot be overestimated."

"Having been a patient in our hospital during April of this year I am pleased to have the opportunity to support the hospital at this worrying time. I was discharged from Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth to continue my treatment here in Llanidloes. The medical care I received was excellent, professional and sympathetic at a time when I was feeling very poorly. The physiotherapy department was prompt and efficient in getting me mobile again, providing advice and the necessary helpful aids. Both doctors and nurses gave time to answer my queries and at no time was this a hurried moment. I imagine preparation of food is somewhat easier in a smaller hospital and certainly I found all the meals beautifully cooked and nutritious.
Being in my home town visiting times were never too tiring for me as a patient, since family and friends would come back and forth without having a distance to travel. I believe firmly that our hospital is an essential part of our community and should certainly be kept open."

A couple from near Manchester on holiday in Australia came across Pat Swallow with the 'Save Llanidloes Hospital' banner near the Sydney Opera House. The gentleman's mother, Mrs Lilian Owen from Llawryglyn is a past Chairman of the Hospital League of Friends and now lives in Stalybridge - some coincidence.
A number of people and their carers on a visit to Lourdes, France object to the proposed closure of Llanidloes Hospital
Four young Australian boys, Christian & Max Swallow, Dylan & Zac Foreman object to the Hospital closure. Their fathers are former residents of Llanidloes and now live in Sydney N.S.W.
