Questions asked of Powys LHB, Valentine's Day 2007

Why are there no detailed transitional arrangements for transfer of patient services in the existing documents and will you please explain how acute health care, accident and emergency services, and care for the elderly, will be provided in the new proposals and will there be any transitional funding?

How will the Community Health Care system work when at the moment there have been no discussions and no agreement with the GP Practices ? Have the GP's from the other Montgomeryshire practices, namely Newtown and Machynlleth, been consulted with regard to the additional service provision that they will be asked to provide for our patients?

Will there be priority over in-patient beds, both acute and care of the elderly and will there be sufficient bed capacity in Montgomeryshire to accommodate our patients?

Has consideration been given to poor transport links which will give considerable stress to an elderly population when attending treatment centres away from their localities?

How much extra funding will be given to Community Nursing teams to manage more patients in the community?

Presently in the partnership set up between the LHB and Powys CC, there is no provision for extra support for carers to manage patients at home, will there be a commitment for extra funding?

There is no trust in the ability of Powys LHB to engage and talk. History is such that they ask for suggestions through a confusing consultation process and then do not follow through. How can trust be restored?

How can the LHB declare that there will be an improvement in health care in our part of Powys when there will be an obvious and dramatic reduction of beds and services ?
