4. Standing prominently on the corner of China Street and Great Oak Street, the National Westminster Bank is one of the largest of Llanidloes' "timber-framed" buildings. It was constructed in 1926; its style deliberately complementing that of its ancient neighbour the Old Market Hall. A late but outstanding example of the "Arts and Crafts" timber-framed revival, with no expense or craftsmanship spared. Outside: carved doorheads, decorated lead downpipes and pitched paving (the NPB lettering there stands for "National and Provincial Bank"). Inside: rough "adzed" beams and ornate plastered ceilings.
