2008 update: Sadly, the event will not be happening this year
Over the last thirty years or so, Llanidloes has built up an outstanding relationship with the RAF, who can be seen constantly in the skies of the Tactical Training Area over Mid Wales. The most visible result of this special relationship is the Llanidloes Air Display. In the past, this event has occured intermittently every few years, but plans are now afoot to make this unique dsplay an annual event.
Headlined by the magnificent Red Arrows, and featuring displays by the famous aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial flight, the RAF Falcons parachute display team and many other service aircraft, all flyng against the superb setting of surrounding hills, the Air Day is not to be missed. As well as the display, the Red Arrows committee also organise an annual dinner and entertainment at the beginning of December. Over the years a wide range of popular entertainers have graced the event. One of the first was Max Boyce, in the days when you could book a headline act for as little as £12 for an evening! Keith Harris (and Orville) and the Worzils have been other notable performers at this much loved event. The Display and Dinner are organised by a team of dedicated enthusiasts drawn from the whole community, and over the years surplus funds generated by the two events have been redistributed to worthy causes such as the Llanidloes War Memorial Hospital and the other community hospitals in the area.
