About Dan y Coed
Dan y Coed is a grade 2 listed building dating back to 1800. It was formerly the gardener's cottage to the Dol Llys Estate, and has been renovated with love and care for guests to enjoy. The cottage is on a moderately busy road, but thick stone walls make a safe haven, and it's a 900m walk into the lovely market town of Llanidloes.
Your stay
A warm welcome awaits guests. The log stove is laid, ready for a cosy evening in, and there are maps of the local area, books, games and DVDs to keep you entertained. The country cottage style decor makes Dan y Coed a homely stay whatever the weather. Wifi is freely available at the property, and all towels and bed linen are provided, along with wood for the fire and additional storage heaters if required.
Good to know
It's an old cottage with a few quirks: the stairs are steep and narrow, and not ideal for those with mobility issues. It's situated on the B4569, a moderately busy road, worth being aware of when booking.
A well behaved pet is welcome, downstairs only. The whole house and garden are available for guests to use, and the hosts, who live 4 miles away, are happy to help if needed.
The hosts aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible, using eco cleaning products that haven't been tested on animals, and supporting local businesses when supplying the property. Electricity is supplied by Ecotricity, and there are electric vehicle charge points available in town.
The area
Local shopping and locally produced food make for an enjoyable experience, and there are plenty of pubs and cafes to choose from in town. Perfect for walking, the woodland at the back of the garden leads onto the national trails of Glyndwr's Way and the Severn Way. The Elan Valley, Clywedog Reservoir and Hafren Forest are all within half an hour, with the coastal towns and beaches of Aberystwyth and Aberdovey a little further, and gardens such as Powis Castle always a joy to visit. Walking, cycling and fishing are all possible from Dan y Coed.
